Another Pharma Plant Converts from Chemical Treatment to a Moss Based Program

Another major pharmaceutical plant has converted from chemical treatment to ProMoss™, a chemical-free water treatment program based on Spagnum moss.  After completing a successful one-year pilot study using the program on a smaller 1,500-ton cooling tower system, the plant converted their larger system that supports their manufacturing facility to the moss-based technology, eliminating conventional treatment chemicals.  The initial reason the facility looked at this technolgy was to reduce its carbon footprint, one of the goals of the corporation's sustainability program.  During the pilot study, the facility was able to also reduce bleed off water to drain by about 60% due to the programs ability to allow operation at higher cycles of concentration.  The plant predicts saving an additional 1.1 million gallons of water in the coming year by shifting its larger system to the ProMoss™ program.

Utilities personnel also like the program as it has eliminated the handling of chemicals and the maintence required on chemical feed systems.  Implementing the program has proven to be both simple and reliable.
